Women’s V MPSM
The Brunswick Women's team played against MPSM in Maribyrnong on Sunday, on a cold and windy morning. MPSM won the toss and sent Brunswick into bat.
Allegra Kline set the tone of the match, by hitting a 4 off the first ball. The Rodger sisters put on a strong batting display; Rosie scored 25 not out and Indi top scored on 48 not out from 32 deliveries, including seven 4s. Isabella Edwards also performed well with the bat scoring two fours on her way to 14 from 18 deliveries before retiring. At the end of their 20 overs, Brunswick had scored 4/141.
The drizzle set in whilst Brunswick were in the field, making for rather unpleasant playing conditions. To their credit, MPSM were very strong with the bat and smashed a total of 21 fours on their way to a match-winning 182 runs. Alannah Sander took the only wicket of the day for Brunswick, towards the end of the innings, to finish on 1/34 from her 4 overs.
In the end, it wasn't their day, but the Brunswick women can take comfort that they were beaten by a strong side. There will be some learnings from the match that they can take into their training this week.
Match Reports Round 3 MCA
Saturday B v Reds
Saturday B had a tough day at the office against the Reds 1st XI - a good but not unbeatable team. After being put in, we were knocked over for 48, with only Sid (12) and Westy (15) providing any real resistance.
We were better with the ball, and on another day might have made some early inroads, but overall we didn't bowl quite consistently enough to build pressure. Bryce, Haddie and Baljeet deserved their wickets and Zaine beat the bat on numerous occasions. Luka's sharp catch at gully was our highlight of the day.
The Reds declared at 5/173, giving us 24 overs to survive to avoid a rare one-day outright result. We showed better application to finish on 5/81, with Westy on 23no.
We look forward to a better performance next week!
Saturday D V Flemington
Flemington won the toss and sent us in to bat in our first 45 over match of the season at McDonald Reserve.
We struggled to really get our innings going with a few batters making starts, but only Waqas Jatoi was able to capitalise with 51, including 8 boundaries and 2 monster sixes. Adrian Tanner (25) and Yogi Sarang (19*) made handy contributions, but wickets fell regularly as we were bowled out after 33 overs for 171.
Evan Nolte led the bowling attack with a tidy 3/32 from 9 overs including being on a hat-trick in his first over thanks to his unplayable hooping in-swingers with the new ball. Adrian Tanner (2/28), Mark Anthony Legg (1/20), Yogi Sarang (1/26), and a run-out chipped away at Flemington's middle order, but they continued to make progress towards their target of 172 runs. Nolte was brought back on to finish his spell and took Flemington's 7th wicket with just 24 runs left to defend. Despite more immense pressure from Nolte finishing his spell with back-to-back maidens and a late wicket from Tanner, Flemington won the game with a score of 8/173 from 31.4 overs.
Sunday D V Flemington
We lost the toss and Flemington sent us in to bat.
A very nice 48 (63) from Tom Martin, 21 (53) from Justin Kruze, 20 (24) from Mick McCarthy and 18 (32) from Aakash Chaudhary contributed well towards our 10/172 (38).
Osgar Bryant toiled hard and took 3/31 (off his 9 straight) and then took over the gloves, at the drinks break, from Kiran Long. Then, at 4/101, some superb spin bowling from Zach Chamberlain, with a fantastic hat trick - that absolutely changed the game. Zach ended up taking a terrific 5/32 (8), well supported by Aakash Chaudhary, with a very economical 0/14 (9). Lachie Anderson also bowled well early on, taking 1/25 (5).
We let some chances go, behind the stumps and in the field. However, there were 2 fantastic catches taken by Zach Chamberlain and Osgar Bryant (off his own bowling) and Osgar Bryant did some nice work, again, behind the stumps (with a stumping, and a runout). Lachie Anderson and Osgar Bryant combined well to take the last wicket, by run out.
Another great win, this week, over Flemington 10/134 (36).
