Here are the Brunswick Cricket Club match reports from last weekend, starting with a bang, with Brunswick scoring the highest ever one-day score in Subbies.

An image with the Brunswick v Endeavour Hills score (5/356 vs 43 all out), with some key stats: the highest one day score; the club's highest winning margin; and an opening partnership of 207 runs.
A bi win for the firsts

Firsts 5/356 V Endeavour Hills 43

Its always interesting to turn up to a game of cricket thinking you have seen it all before.

Well you have not!!

Record one day score, record opening partnership, absolute carnage of an attack & then a bowling group that was as ruthless in its execution of its skills to dismantle the opposition batting group. Our social media posts have provided the highlights of the day & its difficult to add any more commentary around the day.

Cobba became CLOBBA (143 off 74), supported by the batting group Coops 57 (66), SoS 43 (60), Hilly 68 (53) & Greg 17 (11) who all played an important role in establishing a run rate of nearly 8 an over.

Dan 5/21 (8.3), Lou 3/19 (9) & Ameya 1/3 (3) – utilising only 3 bowlers and taking 20.3 overs to dismiss EH – demonstrates our skill execution was first class from our bowling and fielding group.

The win leaves us in 5th place in a tight race for ladder positions over the next 4 games. Our opponent this week Mount Waverly sit 6 points behind with a game in hand & only 3 points separate 2nd to 5th. Croydon are sitting 9 points behind in 7th so it is essential we maintain our winning ways over the coming rounds to make finals and give ourselves the best opportunity to compete.

Seconds 212 V Endeavour Hills 102

We’re back, lads! After a couple of weeks resting my typing fingers, we’ve got a match report from the Twos and strap yourself in, it’s a doozey.

The boys in black from Brunswick were looking to bounce back after a bitter loss out in the bountiful fields of Plenty Valley by taking on the cellar dwellers of second grade and TGC famous, Endeavour Hills in what would later become an unremarkable but important game of cricket. We welcomed Evan Nolte for his first game in the Twos and Tommy Mack back from a sojourn to the Emerald Isle for the lovely trip down the M1.

Our fearless leader, Douglas Walters, “came first” at the toss for only the second time in his stint as captain, and unsurprisingly chose to bat on what looked like a flat deck and a barren, desert-like outfield. Johnny joined him at the crease to open, both hoping to pile on the early pressure while also avoiding the ignominy of becoming the latest victim of Endeavour Hills’ opening bowler “Chonks” surprisingly popular TikTok account. Fortunately, the boys got off to a flyer against a couple of openers who were slower than Gibo chasing a ball to the Gillon Square boundary on a 40-degree day.

Doug and Johnny managed to cruise to 63 off about a run a ball before John (24) played one sweep too many. Hot Rocks (0) came and went, a victim of a steep-bouncing off-spinner from a bloke 5 inches too tall to be bowling off-spin. Shloak (5) mistimed a straight drive off the same bowler, and then Paul (48) fell to an interesting interpretation of LBW. We looked a bit shaky at 4/94 after losing 4/31. Bon and Evan steadied the ship before Bon (19) was done in by a genuinely good ball that knocked back the off stump. Zaine, back in the side and sober enough to bat, contributed 14 before a steady fall of wickets ensued. Meady (0), Potter (1), and Evan (52), who was caught on the boundary all fell rather quickly and left us at 9/195. Gibo (14) selfishly hogged the strike from FOTB Tommy Mackenzie (5*), and managed to slog the score past 200, leaving us with a respectable total of 212 off 43 overs – in small part thanks to 26 wides and around half a dozen dropped catches.

The openers from Endeavour Hills got off to a flyer, walking down the wicket and heaving across the line. Once Zaine (1/19) and Pottsy (1/32) managed to remove them, the fire went out of the game, as the boys from Endeavour Hills seemed more interested in having fun and laughing at each other than actually chasing down the score. The young tacker at three, who we later found out was only 14, batted nobly, but a steady flow of wickets saw Endeavour Hills collapse from 1/40 to all out for 102. It could have been a lot worse if not for the continued case of the "dropsies", probably bringing the match total to around a dozen, as well as some shoulder-high full tosses from the spinners which gave the batting side some free hits. All the bowlers accounted themselves well; Gibo (2/7), Bon (3/10), and debutant Evan Nolte (2/15) were the pick of the bunch.

The boys in black will swap the blacks for whites as they head out to face table-toppers Mt Waverley over the next two weeks – a great test of character as we approach finals time.
