Firsts

6/114 V Plenty Valley 113

Winning the toss, Hilly invited PV to bat on a wicket which promised the bowlers a bit of assistance. We were quickly into out stride as Lou & Dan both struck early to have PV 2/11. We continued to apply the pressure 3/19 became 4/29 then 5/42. A couple of partnerships evolved, of 23 then 32 as Lou was reintroduced to the attack in an effort to get the breakthrough. When this occurred, Mossy with his dynamic left arm nudies grabbed 3/9 to clean up the PV innings for 113. We were exceptional in the field taking opportunities when presented & applying pressure in the ring in support of our bowlers. Whilst conditions favoured the bowlers, you still have to get the ball in the right areas consistently enough. As a bowling group we made sure scoring opportunities were rare and our lines and lengths were always challenging the bats.

Lou 3/18 (9), Dan 2/17 (7), Greg 1/36 (5), Ameya 1/12 (7), Cobba 0/6 (2), Ollie 0/15 (3) & Mossy 3/9 (2) - a very well balanced bowling group.

Low scores in tough batting conditions are never going to be easy. Cobba had a different view & decided to smack 3 boundaries in the second over, taking the attack to the PV bowlers. Cobba fell for 29 (4 fours and 1 six ) with the score on 35. We quickly lost an unlucky Coops (1) & Hilly (0), SoS (10) & Mossy (0), to leave the game in a precarious position @ 5/51.

Greg was joined by Ollie & they combined for a solid & disciplined partnership. They showed determination & preparedness to put the body on the line with numerous balls taken on the gloves being the order of the day.

Greg was able to break the game open & change the momentum of the game in the over before drinks as he took 10 runs off the opening bowler to position us at 5/79. After the drinks break, Greg and Ollie really applied the pressure to PV, with some brilliant hard running between the wickets and some intelligent shot making as PV searched for the breakthrough. Ollie was out with the scores level for a brilliant 33. Greg was 27no, which provided the glue to our innings and his determination and character was on display for all to see. Nico, after a sensational Dowling Shield, had the privilege of hitting the winning run.

A big shout out to everyone who chipped in, firstly getting the game up when things were not promising. Rod, Nookie & Steve your efforts are totally recognised by the playing group & without your support week in & out along with several others (TJ, Mossy, Moorey etc ) we would not be in the position we are as a club.

To Paul Meyers, Peter Laker & Craig Glass who stepped up & did the scoring on the day a huge thanks. We all really appreciated it & hopefully the 6 points capped off the day, not to mention the cold beers!!
